Red Car Syrah Napa Valley the Fight 2009

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

A bit hot on the nose but with huge smoked meat, hickory nut, and boysenberry and pomegranate syrup fruit aromas that have a peachy edge to them. This is gently spicy with a light mineral/mint/cinnamon tone on the nose and a light veneer of wood spice. Big and tart on entry with lots of acid lending this a wild cherry, sour wild berry fruit tone. There's a bit of medicinal detail on the mid-palate with very soft tannins that are completely concealed by the candied red fruits. This is really packed with fresh fruits in a very taut style that presents as fairly lean at the moment. Wonderfully well balanced and deceptively smooth and polished. With some time in the cellar this should continue to open and reveal more density in a rather velvetty style. Long today with a bit of spice and heat on the finish as well as an attractive, dry mouthwatering mineral finale. 91pts

Red Car uses meticulous viticulture and transparent winemaking to craft wines with authentic character and originality. Combining old and new world techniques, we minimize manipulation so the fruit can faithfully express the cool climate personality of the Sonoma Coast. Red Car was founded by Carroll Kemp and Mark Estrin in 2000 with 50 cases of Syrah from a single ton of grapes. Besides an enthusiasm for wine, they also shared a Hollywood background – Carroll as producer, Mark as screenwriter. Their intent was simple: source great grapes, make great wine and market it in an inventive, original way. The winery name is a tribute to the electric trolley cars that ran throughout Los Angeles from the late 19th century through the early 1960’s. These "red cars" provided transportation in a romanticized time and place. We strive to make wines that are similarly memorable and transportive. Read less

Rich body with nice jammy notes. Smooth and silky. Something I can drink all night, with or without food.

Dense and chewy, showing exotic earth, tar, wild berry and pebble flavors that are intense and concentrated, still echoing hints of fermentation aromas. Ends with full-bodied, chewy tannins. Best from 2010 through 2016. 647 cases made. -JL Wine Spectator. A Syrah wine from California in USA. 2007 Red Car Tomorrowland Syrah 750ml

The 2006 Boxcar syrah is a stellar wine at a smashing price. Big yet balanced, this syrah captivates with tastes of wild blackberries, smoked bacon, white pepper and iodine. Its heady and aromatic nose imbues lilac, pine, and ocean fog. It feels like satin in the mouth and finishes seamlessly. Delicious.

90 Points - Robert Parker, Wine Advocate The Fight Round 3 Continues... This wine reveals more licorice, underbrush and pepper notes along with copious qualities of blackberries and cassis. It is more refined and elegant with additional finesse as well as balance over Red Car's Twenty-Two Syrah.
