Recanati Reserve Petite Sirah/Zinfandel Non Mevushal 2006

External Review by Palm Bay International:

Petite Sirah-Zinfandel 2010 - 87 points, Wine Enthusiast/ This is a jammy and plush selection that shows great intensity of flavor and weight. Dark notes of black plum, blackberry and boysenberry flood the nose and mouth, with secondary tones of toast and chocolate. Thick and mouthcoating on the palate, this ends with a woody, chocolate-kissed finish.

Located in Israel’s Hefer Valley, the Recanati Winery is a showcase winemaking facility, equipped with the most innovative technology available today. Owned by Lenny Recanati, a native of Israel with ancestral roots stretching back to Italy, the winery is the fruit of Lenny’s life-long dream to produce truly world-class wines. Chief winemaker is Gil Shatsberg, a graduate of the U.C. Davis wine program. Formerly a winemaker at Israel’s Amphorae and Carmel wineries, Gil brings to Recanati proven expertise in his field, allied to a devotion to artistry and craftsmanship in winemaking. Recanati wines are certified kosher . Production Area Select grapes from the slopes of the Upper and lower Galilee regions. Grape Varieties 70% Petite Sirah, 30% Zinfandel Vinification Grapes are harvested by hand from early September through mid-October. Immediately following the crush, the must is chilled to 60°F in route to the fermentation vats. The crushed grapes then cold macerate for three days to cultivate their complex taste and singular fragrance. After three weeks of fermentation, the wine is transferred to small French oak barrels where it is left to age for 17 months. Color Vibrant violet Bouquet Complex aromas of ripe black fruits suffused with nuances of truffle, cigar and toasted walnut Taste Approachable and delicious now, yet this full-bodied red will age gracefully over the next decade Serving Suggestions Savor with rich stews, red meats and hearty pasta dishes. Also superb with hard, aged cheeses. For maximum enjoyment, decant for one hour prior to drinking and serve at cool room temperature.

Petite Sirah-Zinfandel 2009 - Wine Enthusiast/ A heady, woody and earthy offering from Recanati that offers loads of bramble, dark cherry and black plum aromas and flavors. Fresh and vibrant with a juicy core livening up the mediumweight mouth. Cherry skins and fresh coffee stay through the close.

Reserve Petite Sirah-Zinfandel 2006 - 88 Points, Wine Advocate/ The 2006 Petite Sirah-Zinfandel is Petite Sirah dominated (80%), with the rest Zinfandel. It is a charming wine, aged for 8 months in a blend of American and French oak. It is easy going... easy to like and flavorful, one of the wines I initially liked most from Recanati. Its Petite Sirah vines reach 30 years in age. There are notes of game once past the oak overlay and some intensity on the finish. This is pretty respectable and may age better than seems apparent on first taste. It is typically the wine in the lineup that I think is rather underrated and overlooked. This will appeal more to Rhone drinkers than California drinkers, I suspect, not withstanding the blend and the initial hit of oak.
