Reserve Merlot 2006 - 87 Points, Wine Spectator/ Firm and juicy, with good definition to the red plum and berry flavors, which are accented by crisp, savory herbal notes.
Reserve Merlot 2007 - 87 Points, Wine Advocate/ The 2007 Merlot Reserve is on a par with the '06. There is 10% Cabernet Sauvignon added in, and it spent 16 months in French oak. It is a graceful and elegant wine... It has a certain ethereal air to it.. it is easy to drink, beautifully balanced and a pleasure to drink. It caresses the palate and seems quite charming.
Reserve Merlot 2004 - Wine Spectator Online/ A crisp red, with red plum, currant and chocolate flavors that carry through to the fresh, mineral-filled finish.
Have a vintage New Year/ A highly recommended personal favorite. A bouquet of red berries, cassis, and roses, underscored by hints of white pepper, cloves, and green olives. Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels.
/ Spicy, ripe black cherry and blackberry aromas and flavors; generous and smooth; intense fruit; long finish.
In the remote upper reaches of Argentina’s Uco Valley on the eastern slopes of the Andes, Bodegas Salentein produces a remarkable collection of wines from vineyards planted at some of the highest elevations on the planet. From this lofty outpost, 65 miles south of the bustling city of Mendoza, Argentina’s winemaking capital, Bodegas Salentein (Sah-len-tyne) has forged an international reputation for its fine wines. Each year, growing numbers of curious wine lovers are drawn to this spectacular location, intent on discovering and experiencing the beauty and ethos of Bodegas Salentein for themselves. Bodegas Salentein is a wine destination like no other. Established in the late 1990s, Salentein is a privately-owned estate of almost 5,000 acres, of which 1,124 acres are planted to vine. The property includes a world-class winery and cellars, a 125-acre nature preserve, the showpiece Killka Center for Culture and the Arts, a nearby lodge (the Posada Salentein, offering an elegant and relaxed retreat into nature), and the landmark Chapel of Gratitude, a non-denominational chapel of ascetic loveliness, built using ancient local stonework techniques. Production Area The grapes grow on alluvial, stony soils of the high elevation vineyards of the El Oasis estate (3,608 feet above sea level). The handling of the canopy is based on a perfect balance of shade and sunlight, allowing each grape to reach optimum ripeness. Grape Varieties 100% Merlot Vinification 100% of the grapes are hand-harvested and selected before undergoing a gentle de-stemming. From the selection table, the berries go directly to a 450 kg hopper, where they are received with dry ice to avoid oxidation, and then are transferred to stainless steel tanks, without the use of pumps. Alcoholic fermentation takes place for 10 days at a temperature of 79°F-82°F. Maceration continues for 15 days. The wine is then transferred to first, second and third-use French and American oak barrels (85% and 15%), where it ages for 12 months before bottling. It refines in bottle for six months prior to release. Color Ruby Bouquet A lovely nose of blackcurrant with slight cinnamon Taste Juicy and intense flavors of blackberries and marmalade which is highlighted by delicate, rounded tannins and a finish of vanilla and cloves Alcohol 14.5% Serving Suggestions An ideal match for cheeses, poultry dishes, grilled red meats, salmon and chocolate desserts
Reserve Merlot 2006 - 87 Points, Wine Advocate/ The 2006 Reserve Merlot is quite a mouthful. Aged for 16 months in French oak, it is powerful and intense, as well as laced with sweet vanilla notes. As it aired out and the fruit had a chance to poke its head up from beneath the oaky layer, I liked this more and more... This comes from Israel's Ella Valley rather than the usual northern vineyards because, during hostilities with Lebanon, the winery could not harvest normally in the North.
