Rebello-Valente Vintage Port 1947

Member Review by DoctorJoeE:

1947 Rebello, like any '47 vintage port, is in the category of, "if you find one, buy it, and damn the price." 1947 and 1948 were excellent years for vintage port, but have been largely forgotten due to the unbelievable 1945, arguably port's best year ever. 1945 goes for a king's ransom on those very rare occasions when a bottle can be found at all; but '47 and '48 ports still pop up fairly regularly in auctions - '47 is usually more expensive because it's rarer - but if you happen to see a bottle of either, do yourself a favor and grab it. It will be a bargain compared to a Bordeaux or Burgundy of similar age, and there's a far better chance it won't be spoiled. And the incredible nose alone, which fills the room the second you uncork it, is worth every penny all by itself.
