Ray's Station:

In the mid-1800s, much of California was open land roamed by horses, prospectors and cowboys. Amid remote farmlands, adventurer and outdoorsman John G. Ray opened the doors of Ray’s Station. It was a resting point for weary travelers making the mountainous trek to the natural spring geysers of Northern Sonoma County. John was legendary for his warm but “basic, no-frills” brand of hospitality. At Ray’s Station, the libations were always strong, the food always filling and the accommodations were never confused with any two-, three- or four-star hotel. Ray’s Station Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot are a tribute to John G. Ray and his unique style of rugged hospitality. Read less
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

When we try to describe this wine, we come up with words like lush, rich, dense, concentrated. Hearty. A wine that can bring out the best in grilled game and steak, same as it can with other bold dishes like stews and spiced-up pastas. We blended a small amount of Cabernet Franc, Petite Sirah, Petite Verdot and Merlot to this vintage to bring about rich aromatics and plump up the mid-palate. We also aged the wine in French and American oak barrels that encouraged cedar and vanilla fragrances to develop. What we ended up with is a dark, garnet colored wine with a fruit-driven nose that hints at ripe black cherry, plum, tobacco and vanilla spice. On the palate, the mouth-filling fruit is balanced by smooth tannins. Look for a lingering vanilla oak sweetness. That's what we think, anyway.
