Ray's Station Merlot(2003)

When we try to describe this wine, we come up with words like lush, rich, dense, concentrated. Hearty. We decided to blend some Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc into this wine to add some backbone and plump up the mid-palate. We also aged the wine in French oak barrels coopered to our specifications. That encouraged cedar and vanilla fragrances to develop.

What we ended up with is a wine that we think is well-balanced and quite complex. You’ll find layers of plums, black cherries and other stone fruits, set off by tannins more enticing than what you’d normally expect in a Merlot.

Thi was billed at my wine merchant as a Merlot for Cab lovers, and that is a pretty good description. Very nice nose, with lots of fruit and a little smoke. Nicely balanced with a long complex finish
