Raymond Cab Sauv Napa 2012

External Review:

Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. A touch thin and narrow in the nose and similarly lean and edgy once in the mouth, this slightly stiff, acid-framed wine finds its latter-palate tannins sticking out a bit more than they should by dint of its lack of buffering fruit. On the coarse and charmless side from beginning to end, it will soften with age but lacks the depth needed for positive growth.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking. Wine will improve with bottle aging.

Rating: 88/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. In the long run, Raymond's "Generations" may prove to be the best wine, but, for the time being, this nicely crafted offering is our favorite of the winery's 2005s. It marries ripe cherries and currants with hints of vanilla, dill and sweet spice in the nose, and it follows up with rounded, well-composed flavors under-lain by temperate tannins. There is an overall sense of crafting that sets this one apart, and it deserves a few years in which to grow into its best.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking. Rating: 87/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the August 2010 issue. Nicely defined curranty, Cabernet fruit is complemented by lots of sweet, creamy oak in this tempting youngster's concentrated aromas, and, if still a little on the tight and tannic side, the wine fights through its back-palate toughness with its fruit intact to the end. This is not one to think about drinking anytime soon, and it comes with the recommendation for half a dozen years of quiet cellar aging.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Cellar for future drinking.
