A bit oaky but at the same time quite complex on the nose, with a marine quality here adding freshness to the blueberry and raspberry fruit, all topped with deep and complex oily nuttiness. On entry this is cool and compressed, showing fine structure, taut with lovely grape skin and wild plum fruit full of spicy inner mouth perfumes, and streaked with nice dark coffee and mineral accents on the long, slightly tough peppery finish. A powerful wine that's a little tough today but should blossom with just a bit more time in the cellar. 92 points
2007 Old Hill Sonoma Valley Zinfandel – Planted around 1880 to a typical, albeit Zinfandel heavy, field blend. 34% new wood. Superb complexity on the nose with layers of leather, herbs, smoke, spice, earth, flowers, red berries, red plums, Christmas candies and wet animal fur. This is very fleshy in the mouth with lovely red fruits, soft caressing tannins, and integrated acids. The flavors in the mouth mimic the aromatics giving the vanilla and spice tinged red fruits a feathery, layered quality to the silky bright feel. A great bottle in the making. 94pts

It's got superb, abundant yet ripe, sweet tannins backing everything up. Just about as good as Zinfandel gets. The depth here is married to phenomenal freshness and focus. 95pts
Clean bright red fruit nose makes way for a juicy red fruit bomb of a wine with delicious spice, toffee, dark chocolate and baking spices. Chewy, tannic finish.

Light nose of pine needles. Very thick, intense deep wine of mocha, caramel, cinammon and bruised dark fruit: plums, raisins and dates. Nice drying cedar finish, with an underlying vanilla flavor.
Sweet cinnamon on the nose. Cherry syrup and baking spice. Nice long elegant finish. Sign me up!

The color is deep ruby. The aroma is of earth, berry, and spice. The initial taste is dominated by plum with a layer of red berry followed by spice and vanilla. There is a moderate amount of tannins. I recently purchased this bottle at a local wine shop for $10.99; normally it's priced at $13.99. A solid wine for the price.

Bright purple. A wild, highly perfumed bouquet displays scents of candied dark fruits, sandalwood incense, violet and star anise, with smoke and floral overtones. Sappy, palate-staining cherry compote and cassis flavors show a suave blend of richness and verve, picking up cracked pepper and violet pastille nuances with air. Sneaky, mounting tannins give shape and grip to the strikingly long, sweet finish, with its echoing floral note.
The trick to a successful Zinfandel is to capture the grape’s briary, brambly rusticity and lend it elegance and balance. This wine succeeds at that task. It’s kind of a field blend with 25% of the wine made from what the winemaker calls “mixed blacks.” Whatever the varieties are, the wine is smooth, rich and delicious, showing complex wild berry, mocha, licorice, baking spice and sandalwood flavors. Should easily hold its own over the next 10 years.
Loaded with personality, this is dense and brooding, offering briary wild berry and tar aromas, with concentrated flavors of black raspberry, cracked pepper and smoky herb. Finishes on a dry, tannic note. Best from 2015 through 2021.

You'll notice an array of scents and flavors in this wine; most notably mulberry and blackberry, followed by a strikingly pure, focused finish. The wine gains intensity with air, making it a great wine for an extended, lingering dinner. It is lovely to be consumed now or put down for years to come.
