Not very dark for zin. Raspberry. Chewy, ripe and youthful wine. Great notes of blueberry, raspberry, some vanilla and decent tannins. Nice Zin for the money
Ruby with a light brown edge. Very lightly aromatic, some sense of grass and fruit tree. Flavors of cherry and spice, but with a thin and slightly tannic finish. Stick with 7 deadly zins for an interesting zinfandel. Pairings: Big flavors like bbq or hamburger. Maybe a steak.
Had it with indian food. Went nice.
Berry, good for everyday drinking
Typical over rated Ravenswood Zin. Over the past 30 years as a Zin snob, I think that I've only had 2-3 bottles of Ravenswood Zin that I thought were great. At best the rest were so-so. When I visited their tasting room about 4-5 years ago I bought 6 bottles of 2004 Ravenswood Zins, one from each of their different premium vineyards. I wanted to give them a fair shot. This is the first one I've opened - April, 2011. What's wrong with it? Thin, watery, bitter, minimal fruit, too much tannin and acid, just slightly softer than when I bought it. What's good? A nice aftertaste, when my cheeks disconnect! I confess, I'm a fan of fruit bomb Zins in the heroic mold! Wines that require substantial wrist muscle strength to lift the glass. It used to be the "3 Rs", Ridge, Ravenswood, Rosenblum. From the mid 90s on it's been Rosenblum, Rosenblum, Rosenblum - until sadly they changed hands. Now it's Rockwall (owned by the Rosenblum) and their cohorts for real Zins! Chas.
