Editorial Reviews for Ravenswood Zinfandel Russian River Valley Wood Road-Belloni
Black and briary on the nose with a little blue plum fruit followed by complex notes of hickory smoke and tree bark, with floral top notes and a hint of a beefy edge. Nice and snappy in the mouth with a lighter-styled mouthfeel showing decent acidity. This has lovely fruit, blue plum, wild cherry, and boysenberry that are fragrant in the mouth and supported by plenty of soft tannins that add a little edge of austerity that carries through on the modest finish. This would really be great if it showed more follow through, but it is eminently drinkable and shows lovely perfumes. 90 points
Confermented with mixed blacks, predominantly Carignane, Petite Sirah and Alicante, from this very cool site with sandy soils. Planted in about 1900. 32% new wood. Big and bushy on the nose with notes of briar, seashells and big peppery top notes, some herbal tones give this a green peppercorn quality. Big, rich and juicy in the mouth with red apple acids giving real snap to the dark, earthy fruits. This finishes with big structure, those red apple acids as well as slightly drying, aggressive tannins. The boysenberry fruit on the palate is floating a bit beneath the structure with hints of dried leaves and smoky tones adding some complexity, Very youthful feeling with room to improve. 90pts

Imagine the soft, smooth texture of a fine Merlot. Then combine it with the briary, peppery flavors of a Sonoma Zinfandel. That's what you get in this dry, complex young wine. It's a classic Zinfandel that, despite high alcohol, doesn't feel hot. - S... Wine Enthusiast. A Zinfandel wine from California in USA. 2008 Ravenswood Zinfandel Belloni Vineyard 750ml
The Belloni Zinfandel is a terroir-driven wine, beautifully balanced with an attractive earthy complexity. It shows a soft spicy attack of fresh black raspberry and brambly blackberry with distinct earth and tobacco notes, finishing very long.
Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar ReviewRated 90-92Deep ruby. Smoky dark berry and cherry preserves on the nose, along with spicecake, roasted meat and dried rose. Quite ripe on the palate, with fleshy dark fruit flavors, chewy texture and slow-building spiciness. Packs serious flavor punch, not to mention impressive finishing cling and thrust. This needs full-flavored food.
Tasting Notes:
78% Zinfandel and 22% Mixed Blacks The 2007 Belloni is characterized by particularly dark opaque color and a rich boysenberry, candied cherry, mocha flavor - characteristics achieved by the cofermentation of Zinfandel, Carignane, Petite Sirah, and Alicante Bouchet grapes. Seemingly sweet, this wine is very round and full with lots of boysenberry, blackberry, and blueberry hints to it. The nice cool climate acidity gives the wine a good balance and structure. Enjoy its long, elegant, spicy finish that fills the palate beautifully. – Joel Peterson
