Winemaker's Notes:

2007 was a very good year on all fronts, for both Zinfandel and Cabernet Sauvignon. Proof positive: this dark, richly flavorful black currant yumster that boasts excellent balance and structure. We source grapes from Sonoma Valley mountain vineyards for this blend, as well as lots from Alexander Valley and Dry Creek. This vintage also has a good amount of fruit from Bedrock, Joel’s vineyard in the banana belt of Sonoma Valley, which contributes its high-toned elegance.

  No Wimpy Wines. That’s the motto of Ravenswood Winery, a winery that believes that white Zinfandel’s best quality is that it preserved Old Vine Zinfandel during Prohibition. That’s not just some flashy name either: Joel Peterson, founder and winemaker of Ravenswood and nicknamed “the Godfather of Zin,” lives it every day. He spent 15 tireless years trying to get his winery to turn a profit, and while his first harvest was in 1976, it was in 1992 that he finally quit his other job at a clinical lab, splitting his life in two the whole time. Financing the operation was always difficult. For many years, the winery moved around, trying to find a cheap place to house their operations. It wasn’t until their Vintners Blend program was launched that they were finally able to settle down with the money they made, in 1991. Starting in the mid 80s, Vintners Blend was a less expensive wine, thanks to the fact that it was created by blending many grapes from different vineyards. In 1982 Ravenswood made their first Zinfandel with grapes from multiple vineyards, creating its County Series: wines that feature regional distinctions. This wine is not dark nor rich with no background notes of black cherry and green pepper. Boring, bland tannins and not-so-subtle oak contribute off-balanced blandness, and the barely existent finish disappears at the exact time you would expect.

Not a bad experience until about one second into the finish when everything stopped. I feel robbed. But for less than $15 it's not much of a crime.

Full bodied and dry. Well balanced with subtle tannins. Noted hints of blackberry, cherry, and slight oak with and moderately long finish. Good everyday wine.

Deep ruby color, expressive aromas of smoky cherry, blackcurrant and baking spices. Suave dark berry flavors show liqueur-like depth and intensity, with dusty tannins adding shape and grip and carrying through the finish.

Soft tannins and subtle oak contribute well-balanced roundness, and the finish lingers considerably longer than you might expect. If Cabernet is Californias luxury wine, this one is arguably the best bargain going.

76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Merlot, 8% Syrah, 6% Malbec, 1% Cabernet FrancThe 2004 Sonoma County Cabernet Sauvignon is beautifully balanced with power and elegance. Fragrant cassis, black currant, cherries and spice tones dominate the complex aroma. Palate tastes of ripe cherries and vanilla from the French oak that is never cloying or heavy. The finish is bright, moderately tannic and very refined. The spice from the Cabernet Franc and the mid-body weight from the Merlot are apparent and make this wine a beautifully confluent experience. It will age nicely for ten to twelve years and will be quite enjoyable as it moves into adolescence for four to six years.

This remarkable Cabernet Sauvignon blend was carefully crafted by Joel Peterson and his winemaking team, to be the best Cabernet Sauvignon on the market at this price. Just taste it, you will be convinced. The Vintners Blend Cabernet is an awesome glass of wine at an insane price!
