Food Pairings for Ravenswood Napa Zinfandel
Well, this wine had a lot of the "zips" and "zings" that I think a zinfandel should have, but strangely enough, they seemed to be in all the wrong places, and seemed to crash into each other, rather than flow with one another. so it just came out all wrong for me. That seems odd beings that it is a blend, and could be crafted in order for the different components to work together better Maybe since this is Ravenswood entry level wine with several higher options, they're just displaying a little bit of that zinfandel magic, but in way that will not fully satisfy (I wasn't satisfied, anyway), in order to prod people on to other levels.

Full bodied Fruity Smooth, subdued sourness/acidity Good everyday wine
External Reviews for Ravenswood Napa Zinfandel
Readers looking for a $10 Zinfandel that admirably displays that varietalrsquo;s berry character along with tangy spice should check out Ravenswoodrsquo;s 1999 Zinfandel Vintnerrsquo;s Blend. It is a medium-weight, correctly made effort that is best consumed over the next 12ndash;18 months.
Basic everyday Zin, fruity enough to go with just about anything. Gets the nod for its polished cherry fruit, richly tannic structure and glyceriney sweetness, although itrsquo;s really a dry wine.
Here yoursquo;ll find an almost voluptuous, concentrated yet satiny-smooth expression of intense raspberry fruit. It opens into a focused, lingering wine that captured not only the essence of the grape but also the style of the vintage. All of Joel Petersonrsquo;s wines are a pleasure to taste, this one is widely available.
Medium red. Fresh redcurrant and strawberry aromas are lightly kissed by smoky herbs. Silky and fine, with bright red fruit and herb flavors, smooth tannins and a persistent raspberry note on the finish. Pretty impressive for the money, and there are 6 million bottles of this. Irsquo;ve bought this at gas stations! Peterson notes that it was fermented completely with native yeasts.
The 1997 Zinfandel Napa (14.3% alcohol) takes first prize. Its saturated ruby/purple color is followed by a big, peppery, spicy nose with underlying minerals and black fruits. There is very good density in this appealing value. Drink it over the next 2ndash;3 years.
Each year winemaker Joel Peterson combs the countryside to seek wineries with small lots of well-made Zinfandel, which are blended with some of Ravenswoodrsquo;s Zinfandel to produce a well-structured wine with charming, youthful fruit. The wine has spicy, ripe raspberry aromas and flavors of black cherry, mint and vanilla. It finishes crisp and clean.
Straightforward, balanced and generous in flavor, echoing cherry and toast on a moderately long finish. Easy to approach but firm enough in texture to complement serious food.
Pleasing bright, ripe plum flavors with mouth-watering acidity and fine tannin structure followed by a racy, lingering finish that tastes of raspberries, cloves, cardamom and vanilla
