What to Expect

Zinfandel is considered America's own great indigenous grape, even though its origins lie on the Adriatic coast. Planted throughout California and the Pacific Northwest, Zinfandel is at its best in warm regions with cooler temperatures during harvest. The wines can range from off-dry Rosés, White Zinfandels, and light bistro styled wines, to big, rich powerful wines - even luscious wines for dessert bottling. The flavors range from plummy to raspberry, although deep blackberry fruit and brambly spice tones are most common.

Winemakers Notes

Austere with herbal notes that work into core of berry flavors followed by dry earthy tannins which appear on the finish.

One of our house wines. We buy the one uder $10. Works really well with pancetta and artichoke pasta, or pizza.

Fruit forward with red berry and plum. Some oaky notes in the mix as well. Firm tannins. This wine was a bit hot with the alcohol at times. Not bad at all but could stand to gain a little complexity in my opinion.

Wine Tasting NotesThe Vintners Blend has a rich, somewhat soft, moderately complex, spicy, ripe, raspberry aroma. The flavors are those of black cherries, mint and vanilla with a sturdy, slightly astringent finish. The freshness and youth that we strive for in the Vintners Blend allows it to be released with slightly less barrel and bottle age. We pass our economic savings on to the consumer who will find these forceful but friendly wines to be a wonderful complement to pasta, poultry, red meats and other highly-flavored dishes.

This is Ravenswood's introductory Zinfandel. A full-bodied red with black berry fruit, cherries, and pepper aromas. If you like this Zin, try the rest of their wines: you'll immediately see the family resemblance.

Each year winemaker Joel Peterson combs the countryside to seek out wineries with small lots of well-made Zinfandel. These wines, blended with a base wine of up to roughly 40% of Ravenswood's own crushed and fermented Zinfandel, produce a style that is distinctively Ravenswood. Careful choosing and blending achieves a well-structured wine with charming, youthful, Zinfandel fruit character.
