Editorial Reviews for Ravenswood Lodi Zinfandel
Jammy fruits on the nose with lots of plum and crushed berry tones with a toffeed edge and notes of cedar and slate in the back ground. Big and soft with drying tannins and adequate acidity. A bit dull though there are sweet roasted strawberry tones accented with a hint of black pepper. A bit short as well. 83pts
This Old Vine Zinfandel had a deep ruby red color. The nose was dominated by plums, strawberry jam, blackcurrant jam and earth. The wine had a label listed ABV of 14.5%. Unfortunately, I could smell the alcohol, too. On the palate, Old Vine Zinfandel was very fruit-forward. There were some minerals and a decent acidity, too. The wine had a small/medium body and mellow tannins. Ravenswood's Old Vine Zinfandel had a finish of medium length. Tasting notes from Vino in Love: http://vinoinlove.com
Strong and robust with cherry, cinnamon, and spicy pepper on the nose. Pomegranate flavors, structured tannins well placed. Just like Joel says, "no wimpy wines", and so far I agree.
A very mellow and balanced wine. Have had $40 bottles of wine that weren't half as good.
Very smooth, fantastic flavor and it stands well on its own.
Great flavor and on of my favorite "Old Vine" Zin's. For the price, its unbeatable.
hey, I grabbed a footlong meatball marinara sub from Subway, and stopped by Kroger and saw this on sale for $5.69? (half price!) This wine married with that sub for life! A quality zin, ready to drink, this wine sang a beautiful tune on the back of my throat.
Happy with this Zin blend. I know I enjoy Ravenswood and I'm a sucker for blended anything, so... in the bag it went. Beautiful plum color. Thick, cloying nose. Yes, ok to toffee and jam, per the label. Yes, I'll agree with Stanleygan on the Meatball sub rec. It makes me think of deep red sauce and meat. Mmmmmm... The food pairing I made undoubtably didn't do it justice, but the wine was very nice, just the same, with my *&#$^% (too embarrassed to claim what I had it with) and also alone. Enjoy!!

You'll get taken over by aromas and flavors of black cherries, currant, clove and cocoa, with soft, full tannins and balanced acidity for an achingly long and oh-so-pleasant finish.
This intense Lodi Old Wine Zinfandel, made from low-yielding vines, bursts with concentrated sweet plum, blueberry and spice flavors.
Bright and lively, with juicy plum, black cherry, wild berry, cedar, tar and spice. Turns silky, with well-integrated tannins and crisp acidity. Drink now through 2002.
This rich, round, full-flavored Zinfandel is drawn from two distinct vineyards in the Lodi appellation. Deliciously drinkable young for its precocious, soft, spicy berry fruit and lush texture, this classic Lodi Zin will continue to evolve over the next 5-6 years.
Ripe and alcoholic, with dried currant, spice, plum and dried raspberry flavors, picking up lead pencil and modest tannin on the finish. Drink now through 2005.
The 1997 Zinfandel Lodi (14.3% alcohol) is an excellent bargain that rivals the Napa bottling. It possesses a deep ruby color, as well as excellent rich blackberry and cherry fruit and soil scents. In the mouth, it is medium to full-bodied, round, attractive, and mouth-filling. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.
From 120-year old vines; 20% of this wine was from the second crop - after the grower picked a huge first crop in August. Saturated dark ruby. Aromatic nose of blackberry jam, cracked pepper and molasses. Sweet, dense flavors of blueberry and dark chocolate leavened by strong acidity. Finishes with port-like notes.
