Ravenswood California Lodi Old Vine Zinfandel 2007
88 points Josh Raynolds (International Wine Cellar): Bright ruby. Deep dark berry and cola aromas are complicated by cured tobacco and baking spices. Fleshy and gently sweet, with good depth and sweet raspberry and blackberry flavors. Fresh, straightforward and refreshingly brisk, with good finishing lift and cut. (May/Jun 2009)

From 120-year old vines; 20% of this wine was from the second crop mdash; after the grower picked a huge first crop in August. Saturated dark ruby. Aromatic nose of blackberry jam, cracked pepper and molasses. Sweet, dense flavors of blueberry and dark chocolate leavened by strong acidity. Finishes with port-like notes.
Good, solid wine: Itrsquo;s light in color, firm and stony on the palate, the black fruit soft, round and supple in the midst of the firm structure. Black pepper and anise flavors fill out the warm finish mdash; not long but satisfying, setting the right tone for casual entertaining.
Good bright red-ruby. Superripe aromas of blueberry, blackberry, licorice and menthol. Juicy and fresh, with sweet berry and spice flavors and good cut. From vines picked before the early September heat wave.
Shows ripe plum and licorice aromas, with lively, slightly untamed dried cherry, spice and blueberry flavors. Drink now.
Chewy and ripe, with dried raspberry, vanilla and ripe plum flavors that finish with firm tannin, lively acidity and a peppery note. Drink now through 2006.
The 1997 Zinfandel Lodi (14.3% alcohol) is an excellent bargain that rivals the Napa bottling. It possesses a deep ruby color, as well as excellent rich blackberry and cherry fruit and soil scents. In the mouth, it is medium to full-bodied, round, attractive, and mouth-filling. Drink it over the next 2ndash;3 years.
This rich, round, full-flavored Zinfandel is drawn from two distinct vineyards in the Lodi appellation. Deliciously drinkable young for its precocious, soft, spicy berry fruit and lush texture, this classic Lodi Zin will continue to evolve over the next 5ndash;6 years.
