Raveneau Chablis Montee de Tonnerre 2001

“Montée de Tonnerre” is situated to the southeast of Chablis continuous block of grand cru vineyards and shares the same geological profile. Of the appellation’s premier crus, Montée has the greatest proportion of Kimmeridgian chalk, leading to excessively austere chardonnay, perhaps the most cerebral in the region. These are noted for harmonious maturation, gaining weight and depth as they age. A classic vintage for Chablis, this 2001 is an assault of stoniness, crushed oyster shell, balanced with a tinge of honeyed grapefruit. Still youthful, and starting the evolution....
