Rauzan Segla 6 Bottle Limit 2016

96-97 Points, James Suckling: "A solid red with currant and blackberry character. Full body, soft tannins and a flavorful finish. Shows richness and excitement. Juicy and sexy undertone to this." 4/17 95-97 Points, Neal Martin, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate: "The 2016 Rauzan-Segla (Rausan-Segla) is a blend of 68% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot picked between 20 September and 15 October at 45 hectoliters per hectare. The wine is being aged in 60% new oak for 18 months. It has 13.2% alcohol. It has a very powerful and intense bouquet with layers of blackberry, kirsch, cedar and a touch of mint. The palate is medium-bodied with plenty of fruit concentration: layers of ripe blackberry and boysenberry, segueing into what feels like a very spicy and peppery second half that seems to calm down and attain more nuance with aeration in the glass. It is a wonderful follow-up to the 2015 last year, although not quite with the same audacity and bravado. Tasted twice with consistent notes." 4/17 #230 94-97 Points, Antonio Galloni, Vinous: "The 2016 Rauzan-Ségla is a more-than-worthy follow-up to the stellar 2015. The history of Chateau Rauzan-Segla started in the reign of Louis XIV, when Pierre de Rauzan acquired the estate in 1 661. This wealthy man, a leading and well-reputed Bordeaux wine trader, also became the tax farmer of Chateau Margaux and Chateau Latour. Over the years, generations of the Rauzan family succeeded to the running of the estate, as they were to become Counsellors of the Bordeaux Parliament as well. Rauzan-Segla wines grew in reputation in a remarkable way and were some of the most highly rated in Bordeaux. They delighted many well-known figures, most famously Thomas Jefferson who came across this wine during his visit to the vineyards of Bordeaux, placing an order for several cases of it. He thus became a fervent admirer of Rauzan-Segla wines. Some decades later the 1855 classification ranked Chateau Rauzan-Segla as a Second Growth. Frederic Cruse, the estate's owner, had the current chateau built in 1 903. He approached the architect Louis Garros, who drew his inspiration from the original Perigord-style buildings in the construction of the chateau, as well as G. Le Breton to design the park and green spaces. Then time went by, and the Chateau gradually fell into a slumber... It wasn't until 1 994 that the complete renovation of the estate returned the Chateau and grounds to their original splendour. The patina of age, the climbing rose bushes, the hydrangeas, blond Bourg stone and verdant lawns - today everything radiates the tranquil calm of a residence filled with opulent charm. Read less
