Ratti Renato Barolo Marcenasco 2008
Half way up the hill overlooking the main Barolo valley, along the first spurs of the neatly aligned vineyards, lies the Abbey of the Annunziata (Our Lady of the Annunciation), a priceless jewel of the 15th Century. Just as the good friars of centuries past produced wines from the grapes grown along the hollow below their abbey, a position of glory and grandeur, today, faithful to their same timeless wisdom, wines of incomparable quality are produced.

This wine holds an intense garnet red color. A bouquet with traces of licorice and tobacco lingers on the nose. It is full flavored, full-bodied and elegant.
The 2006 was the #1 Wine of the Year for 2010 by Wine Enthusiast Magazine! A single vineyard, small production Barolo from one of Piedmont's best boutique producers. Renato Ratti has conducted an extensive study of the soils, geography and production of vineyards throughout the area and mapped out individual plots for best quality potential. The Marcenasco vineyard is in the La Morra region, known for its fragrant, elegant wines. 2008 was another incredible year in Piedmont and the Wine Advocate scored this 92 points saying "The 2008 Barolo Marcenasco is a pretty, up-front Barolo that is best enjoyed for its exuberant, open personality. It shows lovely delineation in its dark red fruit, smoke, licorice and spices. Today the French oak is a bit intrusive, suggesting the wine may not have quite enough stuffing to go the distance. That probably won’t matter much, as most bottles will long have been enjoyed by the time that becomes an issue. The juicy, fleshy style should remain appealing for at least a handful of years. With time in the glass the wine shows signs of increasing finesse, but I would still suggest drinking it sooner rather than later. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2018."
Good bright dark red. Tangy candied fruits, cocoa powder, flowers and licorice on the lively nose. Juicy, sharply delineated and vibrant, with lovely but youthfully subdued berry flavors. Distinctly younger today than the 2007 version and tighter ... Stephen Tanzers IWC. A Nebbiolo wine from Piedmont in Italy. 2008 Renato Ratti Barolo Marcenasco 750ml
