Rare Wine Company New Orleans Special Reserve Madeira NV

Editorial Review by Gregory Dal Piaz:

A very fresh nose that is almost grapy, rasiny with a muscat edge and a fruit taffy top note. Very fine in the mouth with loads of burnt sugar up front then a lively and balanced mid-palate with great richness and sneaky length. 90pts

An extremely limited release on this special cuvée. When first produced in 2007, proceeds benefited renewal in post-Katrina New Orleans. Like the 2007 blend, this 2010 is a Madeira evoking nostaglic references to both the greatest and rarest of this historic wine. A small amount of incredibly rare Malvasia from Madeira's most historically important vineyard makes it rather unique. this variety of Malavasia adds a fudgy, spice cake complexity to the singed orange and grilled nut character pervading the wine. Lightly sweet in its style, its mélange of complex flavors are focused by powerfully tangy, juicy acidity. A wine destined for after-dinner sipping with a beautiful aged reblochon.

The newest addition to the Rare Wine Company's collection of traditional style Madeira. Made from the medium-dry grape , this Madeira has a smoky complexity while maintaining a tangy acidity.
