Raptor Ridge shares a 27-acre estate with families of Raptors — birds of prey such as Red-tailed Hawks, Kestrels, Sharp-Shinned Hawks and Owls. We are located on the northeast side of the Chehalem Mountains, 10 miles north of Newberg, Oregon. At Raptor Ridge, our winemaking goal is to capture the fresh fruit flavors and delicate aromas offered by Oregon's Willamette Valley winegrowing region. Raptor Ridge Pinot noir ages in French oak and is racked in synchrony with the dark of the moon. Raptor Ridge Pinot gris is made in a refreshing Alsacian style. Vineyards In addition to our own 27-acre estate property, several distinctive vineyards throughout Oregon's northern Willamette Valley supply premium wine grapes for Raptor Ridge. Our Pinot noir style favors deep red and blue-fruit flavors and baker's chocolate aromas often derived from winegrapes grown in the McMinnville Foothills area. Our Vineyard Designated wines, as well as our Reserve and Willamette Valley Pinot noirs, hail from several well-known winegrowers. Read less

Herbal and medicinal on the nose with sweetly nuanced, tight wild berry fruits and hints of juniper and sage. Round and soft in the mouth, but not from a lack of acidity. This just has a languid if juicy style that allows the subtly complex notes of dried herbs, candied cherry fruit, earth, old wood and almost floral fennel spice to drift across the palate before they hit the backstop of that acidity. The finish is much more lively, offering fine cut and lovely little nubby, sweet tannins for some textural diversity. There's a touch of bitterness and a hint of red apple peel on the moderately long finish that add some lovely detail here. This has soul. 92pts

Light, a bit sweet. A little sour as well.

Chocolate + coconut aromas with red berry fruit. Typical pinot body, which is nicely balanced.

Spicy nose of blackberries. Sweet blackberry and raspberry notes with deep cinammon spice and a nice berry pip flavor on the finish with chocolate notes.

I've been hanging on to this bottle for a while. We really enjoyed it. It was served with Rib-eyes and Mahi-mahi for Christmas Eve dinner. This Pinot was more smokey than most, but interesting none the less. It definitely had all of the berry and fruit flavors described in the review. I've got a few other 01 Oregon Pinots to try over the new few weeks. I'm anxious to see how they all compare.

Pure bouquet of honeydew melon, magnolia and sweet lime. The velvety sweet fruit and salty acidity give this wine an exotic kick. Pure and impeccably balanced, with a lively, elegant finish. Spatlese is seldom better in its youth than this beauty.

Pale yellow-green color. Crushed stone, lime oil and ethereal white flowers on the nose. Wonderfully elegant wine combining serious richness and density with terrific grip. The white peach, spearmint and spice flavors are complicated by a soil-driven saline minerality. Finishes with superb grip and dusty length. This is two-thirds Chapelots and one-third Pied d'Aloue, the former providing fat and the latter minerality, according to winemaker Seguier. Grand cru suavity and complexity here.
