Raptor Ridge Pinot Noir Willamette Valley Reserve 2003

Winemaker's Notes:

Our 2003 Reserve Pinot noir is a blend of wine grapes from across Yamhill County. Vineyards and clones included are Meredith Mitchell (MMV) and Stony Mountain (Stony) Pommard clones, a touch of Wadenswil clone from Shea Vineyard, and a Coeur De Terre (CdT) field blend. Soil types in these vineyards include Willakenzie and Yamhill. Fruit from each vineyard was harvested at an average of 24 Brix, with an average pH of 3.25. Grapes from each vineyard were fermented separately, using a diverse selection of yeasts and cooperage. For the blend, we selected the best barrels of wine from each vineyard that exhibited a balanced, consistent "Taste of Raptor Ridge." Rather than suggest any one vineyard, the resulting blend exhibits the consistent complexity of our finest vineyard designates.

Raptor Ridge shares a 27-acre estate with families of Raptors — birds of prey such as Red-tailed Hawks, Kestrels, Sharp-Shinned Hawks and Owls. We are located on the northeast side of the Chehalem Mountains, 10 miles north of Newberg, Oregon. At Raptor Ridge, our winemaking goal is to capture the fresh fruit flavors and delicate aromas offered by Oregon's Willamette Valley winegrowing region. Raptor Ridge Pinot noir ages in French oak and is racked in synchrony with the dark of the moon. Raptor Ridge Pinot gris is made in a refreshing Alsacian style. Vineyards In addition to our own 27-acre estate property, several distinctive vineyards throughout Oregon's northern Willamette Valley supply premium wine grapes for Raptor Ridge. Our Pinot noir style favors deep red and blue-fruit flavors and baker's chocolate aromas often derived from winegrapes grown in the McMinnville Foothills area. Our Vineyard Designated wines, as well as our Reserve and Willamette Valley Pinot noirs, hail from several well-known winegrowers. Read less

I love this pinot. It's one of my faves from the Willamette Valley. A hint of spice, also berry and plum. Medium tannins.
