What to Expect

Oregon has only recently emerged as a source for premium wine and is winning fans over to their somewhat earthy style of Pinot Noir. With vineyards a bit cooler than most of California's, yet warmer still than Burgundy, Oregon's Pinot Noirs feature a synthesis of ripe fruit, ripe structure and transparency that draws on the strengths of both. The wines tend to have a touch of earthiness and a sense of transparency that many Pinots from California lack yet the fruit profile, full of dark berries, is decidedly warm-climate in nature.

"Ruby garnet in color. Hightoned and elegant aromas. Moderate palate weight. Lovely sappinessdeveloping.In 2006, grapes received quite a bit of hang time to develop a lush andhedonistic flavor profile. By the time the right flavors developed inthe grapes, the potential alcohols had risen to high octane levels! Repeatedly, wines produced from this site garner the highest accolades. Stylistically, Scott Shull's example is classic Shea to me. Using the flawless 2006 Auteur Shea Vineyard as a benchmark, I believe Raptor Ridge comes very close. Sourced from a pair of blocks; 11 and 33, both Dijon clones 114 and 777, respectively.
