Rancho Zabaco Zinfandel Dancing Bull California 2013

Member Review by Alleigh:

On the nose, there was blueberry jam, blackberry, and black cherry aromas, followed by a lot of cedar, smoke, earth, and vanilla. In the mouth, there was IHOP syrup (although without the viscosity), blueberries, nutmeg, cinnamon, and vanilla. The wine had low tannins, and high acidity and alcohol. Given to a 14-year-old boy in 1843, the 17,000 acre land in northern Sonoma County was originally farmland. Dubbed “Tzabaco Rancho” by its owner, it was the basis for Rancho Zabaco’s name and future success. Founder and winemaker Eric Cinnamon devotes his time to the land, producing only the wines that grow best in the area: Sauvignon Blanc and Zinfandel. Their land in the Russian River Valley is devoted to Sauvignon Blanc, while Dry Creek Valley, the “Zin Zone,” consistently produces world-class Zinfandel. Read less

Fruity, jammy nose, a little smoky, oaky on the tongue that finishes with a little bright berry at the finish. Smooth

Bought this wine as the local winestore recommended it from it's Zinfandel's. I tasted the wine with some italian pasta. The wine is fruity and pleasingly smooth, but it lacks the structure I was hoping for.

I rate it 87. Strong fruit, full body, nice nose, hint of sweet. Very satisfied for $8.99

Simple Zin that is less like a Zin than a Syrah without much stuffing. Black cherry aromas. Cherry flavors with a raspberry jam finish. Will try again tomorrow and see if it's gained some weight.

SILVER MEDAL, 2009 CALIFORNIA STATE FAIR WINE COMP. A fine effort, the sophisticated '07 Dancing Bull Zinfandel skates nicely on the palate with uncommon smoothness; easy in the aftertaste.

This Zinfandel is jammy and rather generic, but still appealing for its toasty cherry and sassafras notes. Drink now through 2015.

As for the red wines, the 2008 Zinfandel is better than many Zinfandels costing 2ndash;3 times the price. Composed of 88% Zinfandel and the rest Petite Sirah and a tiny dollop of Tempranillo, it possesses a dark ruby hue along with plenty of wild berry fruit, herb, pepper and spice characteristics, soft tannins, enough acidity to provide zestiness, and fine balance. It should drink nicely for 1ndash;2 years.

This plush zin is chock full of jammy blueberry flavor, with little tannic restraint. Serve it cellar temperature with barbecue.

The least expensive, the 2000 Zinfandel Dancing Bull may be the best Zinfandel buy in the marketplace. Its healthy dark plum/ruby color is accompanied by jammy black cherry fruit, medium body, excellent purity, and a lusty, heady finish. It represents everything a Zinfandel should be. Drink this fruit-driven, nicely-sized 2000 over the next 1ndash;2 years.

The wine is immediately approachable with lively raspberry and black pepper fruit. Dancing Bull Zinfandel has hints of black pepper and soft, supple tannins. An extremely versatile wine that pairs well with marinara sauce, grilled chicken or barbecued beef. With its bright, vibrant fruit flavors and zesty personality, this wine can go with just about any dish.

Nearly as good as the rsquo;01 and rsquo;02, and in the same vein, a dry, balanced Zin that combines an elegant structure with sour cherry, herb and coffee flavors. Notable for its restraint, in an era when itrsquo;s all too easy to let Zinfandel ripen to excess.
