This is a very rich wine, with lots of plum/cherry and chocolate. I drank it slightly chilled, on a hot day, but would have preferred this "warming wine" at room temperature in the middle of winter.
Cherry, dark and earthy, beautiful aroma, great for any grilled food.
Beautiful, rich purple color, peppery, and warm.

Another well-made, luscious, rich Zin from out of the bull-pen. Rich and jammy, with dark fruit and berry flavors and earthy tannins. Enjoy with grilled meats, sausage, and a football game.
An excellent bargain in Zinfandel is the 60,000-case cuvee of the 2006 Zinfandel Heritage Vines. Aromas of pepper, roasted herbs, smoked meats, charcoal, and briery, red mountain fruits jump from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, heady, lush, fleshy Zinfandel. Consume it over the next 3-4 years.
Robust and at times elegant, with an array of ripe cherry, currant and blackberry fruit. Finishes with depth, complexity and a nice sense of balance and proportion. Drink now through 2005.
Rancho Zabaco does an excellent job with Zinfandel, especially the inexpensive cuvées. The peppery, spicy, dark ruby-hued 2007 Zinfandel Heritage Vines is a soft, round, attractive effort displaying lots of earthy fruit. It is best consumed during its first several years of life.
The 2000 Zinfandel Heritage Vines is a real steal. It exhibits a dark ruby/plum color along with explosive aromas of black fruits, pepper, and spice. Medium to full-bodied, with oodles of briery fruit, a supple texture, and a long, lusty, heady finish, this uncomplicated, delicious Zinfandel should be enjoyed over the next 2-3 years.
Spicy, racy, and modestly tannic, with lingering chocolate, dried black currant, plum and lead pencil flavors. Drink now through 2004.
Once the Zinfandel wine grapes were harvested, they were brought into the winery and were destemmed, but not crushed, resulting in 20%-30% whole berry fermentation. Partial whole berry fermentation minimizes the possibility of extracting harsh, bitter tannins from the grape skins and seeds, resulting in concentrated, fresh, and forward raspberry-like flavors in the finished wine. To add color and flavor concentration, the grapes were cold soaked for one day at 60°F, which was followed by four to six days of fermentation with maximum temperatures of 88°F. Five to seven days of skin contact contributed to a deep ruby color that visually hints at the ripe fruit flavors of the wine. After primary fermentation was complete, the wine underwent malolactic fermentation to soften the acids and tannins. The wine was aged on its lees to enhance the mouthfeel and then was filtered prior to bottling.
The 2008 vintage of Sonoma Heritage Vines delivers an abundance of black fruit and spice aromas, demonstrating the classic and distinctive characteristics of Zinfandel. The soft, plummy, and jammy flavors and textures make this wine not only approachable, but also versatile, allowing it to be paired with a wide range of foods.
