Ramsay Pinot Noir North Coast 2009

External Review:

Richly textured and delicious with delicate aromatics of spicy plum, cinnamon, and anise seed. This Pinot Noir offers up crushed berries and violet, with just a touch of smoke and white truffle on the lengthy finish. ldquo;New Worldrdquo; ebullience in an old world frame. Itrsquo;s like Daisy Miller running wild among the Romans, except this one has a very happy ending.

Kent Rasmussen Winery:
We've been making fabulous Pinot Noir since 1979, and to that we've added a single-vineyard Petite Sirah, a lovely Chardonnay, and various esoteric wines that change every year - Late Harvest Viognier, Riesling, Cabernet Franc... make an appointment to see us at our convenient Silverado Trail winery !
Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Layered Rice Pudding

RiceSelect's fragrant Jasmati® is blended with eggs, milk and fall's favorite spices, cinnamon and nutmeg, to create a delicious rice pudding, which is layered on top of fluffy cream cheese and abuttery pecan crust. Pairs well with a bold, tawny port with flavors of dried fruits, nuts, and spices.

A classically-styled Pinot, lighter than many of those from the New World. Pale hued, with notes of mushroom and earth mingling with the cherry and strawberry notes. A stellar match for salmon steaks, roasted turkey or light pasta dishes, especially with mushroom sauces.

I feel that this is an exceptionally good Pinot Noir at this price point. This wine is rich and complex, yet full of bright fruitiness and spice. The predominant characters are bright cherry notes, toasty oak and firm tannins, which are reminiscent of a classic French Burgundy. Overall it is structured and balanced, with layers of fruit and spice in every sip. Serve with mushroom risotto or duckling with Bing cherry sauce.
