Ramsay Pinot Noir 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

This wine is a classic California Pinot Noir-lots of nice dark-berry fruit, toasty oak along with the "earthiness" that is only seen in the best Pinot. The mouth of this wine is a stunning example of what Pinot Noir can be-rich, complex, yet full of bright fruitiness and spice. The predominant characters follow the nose-dark bramble-berry fruit, along with some bright cherry notes, toasty oak and a good hit of classic Burgundian complexity. Over it all is a bright balance of cardamom spice. The tannins are in just a little drying, sort of like chewing on a marigold, and offset the fruit nicely.

Suggested Recipe Pairing presented by
Coconut Rice Sweet Potato Cheesecake

RiceSelect's creamy Arborio gets blended with sweet potato, coconut milk and vanilla to create this decadent cheesecake. Pairs well with Saunternes; a white dessert wine that has hints of coconut from aging in oak barrels.

Chalky cherries on the nose. Simple spice and dry red fruits with a complex finish.

Very fruity plum scented nose. In the mouth its rich and fruity with dominant flavors of spice (Cinammon).

Richly textured and delicious with delicate aromatics of spicy plum, cinnamon, and anise seed. This Pinot Noir offers up crushed berries and violet, with just a touch of smoke and white truffle on the lengthy finish. "New World" ebullience in an old world frame. It's like Daisy Miller running wild among the Romans, except this one has a very happy ending.

A classically-styled Pinot, lighter than many of those from the New World. Pale hued, with notes of mushroom and earth mingling with the cherry and strawberry notes. A stellar match for salmon steaks, roasted turkey or light pasta dishes, especially with mushroom sauces.

I feel that this is an exceptionally good Pinot Noir at this price point. This wine is rich and complex yet full of bright fruitiness and spice. The predominant characters are bright cherry notes toasty oak and firm tannins which are reminiscent of a classic French Burgundy. Overall it is structured and balanced with layers of fruit and spice in every sip. Serve with mushroom risotto or duckling with Bing cherry sauce.
