Ramos Pinto Collector Porto Reserva NV

Member Review by duncan 906:

This port was served with the cheese and used for the toasts at the end of a wedding lunch I attended at the weekend. It is a Ruby style port [meaning fruitier ] from Ramos Pinto, one ofthe smaller port houses. It is a blend of wines from several years made from a mixture of grape varieties.Grape spirit is added to the wines after 5 days of fermentation to produce a sweet wine of 19.5% ABV.I did like this port. There is plenty of a plum, cherry.date and raisin style fruit there and it is certainly sweet. It is also very smooth and unlike some ports the alchol was not that noticable In short this is a quality product and one of the nicest ports I have tasted

clear and definitely not transparent, intense ruby-red colour with some granat nuances, indicating some aging. Very consistent. Tannic aromas at first, which develop into an intense and complex bouquet with fruity (cherries under spirit) and spicy (coffee, tobacco and wood) notes. Nice acidity which paires and equilibrates well the warm and sweet sensations in mouth, very persistent.
