Winemaker's Notes:

Special Wine of the Month
Was $39.00 - Now $35.00!!

2007 Sonoma Coast

Our fifth release from this vineyard planted in 1999 by Richard Hyde and his son Rick, brother and nephew of Larry Hyde. Named Sonoma Stage, it is at the apex of Stage Gulch Road between Petaluma and Carneros-a quite cool and windy site. Also included is the second harvest from the Platt Vineyard as 46% of the blend. Planted to our specifications, with old Wente selected from Larry Hyde's vineyard, the Platt Vineyard sits 800 feet above the village of Bodega, with a south-facing exposition overlooking the Estero Americano.

Highlighted Reviews: 2007 Vintage

91 Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar May/June 09
Pale yellow. Pure, finely etched aromas of lemon, pink grapefruit, Anjou pear, tarragon and white pepper. Racy citrus and orchard fruit flavors are given depth by melon and candied licorice qualities, with dusty minerals adding grip. This wines light touch and finishing precision are impressive, and its balanced to age.

90 California Grapevine, Vol. 35, No. 3, June-July 2009
Medium-light golden yellow; attractive, herbal, earthy, spicy, lemony, ripe pear and green apple aroma; medium-full to full body; crisp, lemony, pear and green apple flavors; well balanced and structured; crisp finish; lingering aftertaste. Very highly recommended.

Ramey Wine Cellars:
David Ramey started his career in wine with little more than a degree in enology and a dream. David Ramey started his career in wine with little more than a degree in enology and a dream. Then, after nearly two decades of creating benchmark wines for such California wineries as Matanzas Creek, Chalk Hill, Dominus and Rudd, David Ramey and his wife Carla founded Ramey Wine Cellars in 1996. “Owning one’s own winery is the dream of every winemaker,” David says, looking back on the path that led him to build his own. It took time, planning and a profound understanding of how best to bring together all the elements—from the grapes, to the winery materials, and a top-notch team of professionals—to make it all work. Ramey Wine Cellars is located off the town square in the quaint Sonoma County town of Healdsburg. It is a sleek, efficient, no-frills work space dedicated exclusively to making the highest quality wines possible. “In our own winery, we’re not distracted, as I had been, by the ongoing and changing needs of an employer,” David notes. “At Ramey Wine Cellars, we try to foster a team environment where everybody feels empowered to contribute and make a difference in both winery operations and the wine itself. My hope is to create an atmosphere of great opportunity for all.” The winery produces authentic, hand-crafted wines made in an Old World tradition--coupled with New World innovation and California terroir. Owned exclusively by David and his wife Carla, grapes are sourced from vineyards with which David has worked for many years. Their next project will be to purchase land and develop their own vineyards. Consistently rated among the best wines in California, the winery remains committed to Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay and Syrah as its primary varietals. Winery tastings are available by appointment. Tasting Room We are open for tastings by appointment Monday through Saturday (excluding holidays). This delicious Chardonnay manages to be light on its feet yet filled with rich citrus and mineral flavors and a crisp and precise feel in the mouth. Well balanced and easy on the palate, with a sense of purity and transparency that suggest it will age well.

(bottled the week prior to my visit) Explosively aromatic nose of sappy yellow plum and smoky, charry, resiny oak. Very rich, generous and expansive on the palate but thoroughly dry and airy. Succulent, harmonious acidity frames the fruit. Finishes with a firmly stony note and excellent length. Richer and longer than the 2000 version of this wine.

The brilliant 2007 Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard reveals lots of nectarine, honeysuckle, orange blossom, and citrus oil notes intertwined with good acidity, considerable minerality, and a full-bodied, fresh finish with no evidence of wood. Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. A Chardonnay wine from California in USA. 2007 Ramey Chardonnay Hyde Vineyard 750ml

Bright gold. Energetic aromas of green apple, jasmine, minerals and lemon zest. Dry and nervy, with brisk acidity and a saline nuance giving energy and lift to its citrus and orchard fruit flavors. Vibrant and impressively pure chardonnay, finishing spicy, long and dry, with an intriguing floral quality.

Clean and refreshing, with ripe, fresh, snappy citrus, green apple and pear flavors that are pure, focused, moderately rich and pleasantly cleansing, with a snappy minerality. Drink now through 2015.

Bright green-tinged yellow. Musky aromas of citrus skin, smoke, spices, flowers and minerals. Dry, cool, dense and brisk, with sappy citrus and fresh herbal flavors. A bit youthfully austere. Offers a very refreshing sugar/acid balance and excellent length. It is no easy trick to make 2,400 cases of chardonnay at this level of quality.

As usual, my favorite is the 2004 Chardonnay Russian River, which at first shows more toasty oak, but with air sweet orange, nectarine, quince, and white currant notes emerge. It is a beautiful wine, intense, rich, and classically Californian. It should drink well for 2-3 years as well.

Enticing aromas of hazelnut and sandalwood turn sleek and elegant, offering green apple, citrus and tart pineapple flavors. Lively acidity keeps the flavors dancing. Drink now through 2009.
