Look for this to be one of the top wines of the vintage from Napa Valley. I was exposed to this fruit source with the first releases of Rudd, made by Ramey: the 1998 vintage (VF 95, WA 95), was excellent. The source is a 40-acre box canyon north-east of Calistoga at the base of Mt. St. Helena. The excellent drainage combined with the steeply terraced vines limits the output to as little as 1.4 tons per acre. Comprised of 76% Cabernet Sauvignon, 22% Merlot and 2% Cabernet Franc.
