What to Expect

Montepulciano is a grape closely related with the Abuzzo region of Italy. The wines tend to be quite fruity and grapy and can range from rather lightly styled but still richly fruited to big, dense, spicy wines that have undergone extensive barrel ageing. While all Montepulciano d'Abruzzo is made with Montepulciano grapes not all Montepulciano wine is labelled as Montepulcinao d'Abruzzo. Rosso Conero and Rosso Piceno from the Marches region, for example, are made from Montepulcinao. Furthering the confusion is Tuscany's famed Vino Nobile di Montepulciano, which is, in fact, based on Sangiovese.

Reviews

a taste of Italy right in our backyard. In a blind tasting I would swear this was a Montepulciano d'abruzzo. gorgeous espresso on the nose. dry crushed cherries with a nice acidic finish.
