Raats Chenin Blanc Old Vine 2007
Editorial Reviews for Raats Chenin Blanc Old Vine
Fairly deep and somewhat evolved showing dark honey tones, a bit of subtle wood, and a gamy, meaty edge to the dried quincy fruit with a definite cheesy edge here. On entry this is very finely focused with a leading knife-edge of acid leading to a coiled mid-palate of yellow and spicy fruit. There is nice flesh here with a touch of tannins and smoky, candle wax high tones in the mouth. This is really showing tightly with plenty of refreshing acid and a long finish with nice minerality and crisp sour apple tones. This would show well against chilled shellfish. 89pts
Slightly funky apple aromas. A bit of toast there too. Flavors are emollient but still crisp, creamy and smooth. Lots of apple and pear flavors.
Medium acidity, very oily with some meatiness, typical of a Chenin Blanc. Less extreme than the traditional French Chenin's. Not bad. Its not my grape of choice (too funky), but this is toned down and more approachable.
A little "stinkiness" but with some nice pineapple flavors. Sweet and summery.
I loved the citrus/honey combination of flavors. Great table wine.
not bad, slightly dry and crisp with mild apple taste. Wouldn't be my personal choice but friends enjoyed
