There's an initial burst of big juicy red fruit and layers of Barossa chocolatiness and cinnamon spice with enough oak and tannin to complement all the fruit but still let it play the lead role. The balance and integration of all the components defies its high alcohol content which is so typical of a Chris Ringland made Shiraz.

Deep, saturated ruby. Powerfully scented, complex bouquet of dark berries, cherry-cola, cured tobacco, vanilla and incense. Broad and fleshy, offering concentrated blackberry, cassis and mulberry flavors, with supple tannins adding grip. Plenty sweet, but therersquo;s very good focus and structure too mdash; in contrast to a number of wines from this line-up. Finishes with impressive persistence and a strong echo of dark berries.
For Shiraz fans, the great news is that there are 20,000 cases of the 2006 Chris Ringland Shiraz, sourced from Ringlandrsquo;s favorite sub-region of Barossa, Ebenezer. It was aged for 20 months in seasoned French and American oak hogsheads. Purple/black, it delivers a brooding nose of cedar, tar, smoke, licorice, blueberry, and blackberry. Full-bodied and massive, particularly for a wine in this price category, it offers succulent, savory fruit, great depth, and a 60-second finish. Seamless and complete, it should have a 15 year lifespan. Smart consumers will load up on this amazing value.

This is a great example of what a big, jammy Shiraz should taste like! The color is such a dark purple that it almost looks black. Full-bodied and powerful, the wine still retains a velvety texture with a touch of oak and a long-lasting finish. Definitely age-worthy, this wine packs a powerful punchhellip; not for the faint-hearted.
