Winemakers Notes
After we gently crushed and destemmed the fruit, we fermented the must
in temperature-controlled tanks at 85°F. Following fermentation, the wine
was left on the skins for 12 days to soften tannins and develop complexity.
Malolactic fermentation enhanced roundness and depth. Aging in tank and
barrel (20% new French oak) for 14 months retained the wine’s vibrant fruit
character while adding richness and complexity and softening tannins.

Vintage Notes
The 2007 growing season was another cool and dry one on California’s Central Coast. Flowering was slightly on the early side, which would indicate a lighter crop level. The summer alternated between cool and cold temperatures, resulting in clusters smaller than usual across all varieties and crop levels slightly lower than in previous years. Concentration of flavors and color was very good, however.
Vineyard Notes
Approximately 79% of the grapes for our 2006 Merlot came from vineyards in the Monterey County American Viticultural Area (AVA). Paso Robles provided 15% of the grape sourcing, which offered high-quality fruit that truly expressed the volume and color Central Coast Merlot can possess. A small percentage of fruit grown in warmer North Coast regions added richness and roundness in the mouth.
Tasting Notes
Our 2007 vintage displays classic Merlot attributes: bright, ripe black cherry and plum aromas with subtle notes of spice and chocolate; soft, juicy, balanced flavors; and a smooth, supple texture with well-rounded tannins and bright acidity. The wine’s exceptional character comes from choice Central Coast grapes, primarily from Monterey County, a region that provides the temperate climate, cool breezes and moist alluvial soils that Merlot loves. We blended the Merlot with 19% Syrah for added color and richness, and enhanced the wine’s pure fruit flavors with just a hint of oak for roundness and complexity

Vino ligero con buen cuerpo, bueno para acompañar una pasta
Not bad. Fruity taste but not a complex flavor. More sweet than anything.
Deep ruby color with very long lasting legs, suggesting a thicker body. Blueberry syrup and sour cherry are forefront on the nose, with distinct beefy or meaty notes. The mouthfeel is surprisingly light. Aggressive plum flavors on the initial attack with freshly ground black pepper on the mid-palate. Cocoa, blueberries and plum on the finish, accented by some light tannins. Fairly short finish. Easy and very drinkable wine, but not too complex or deep. Still a solid drink.
Fruity, light bodied, mildly smokey and somewhat mundane, this particular Mondavi supplies a pronounced taste of plum, berries and mild spice on the swirl. Smooth, but lacking the depth or structure of a better quality merlot there is, unsurprisingly, little on the backend. Decent wine for the price range, but there are better wines for the money. 82.
This is a very good wine, in my opinon. I found it to be just a little smokey, with a very nice finish.
Scent is a bit earthy, with smoky licorice. Smooth start, smoky cherry with a tangy finish.
The Robert Mondavi Merlot is built on the Bordeaux model; lively red currant and dried herb flavors are foremost on the palate.
