Perhaps this is a wine that is a bit of an acquired taste. Quite a distinctive rose starting with the orange-y/brownish tinge and prominent raisinated grape, almost Port-ish aroma, and nutty and bone dry on the palate with a nice acidic finish. The blend was of the 3 red rioja grapes: 20% Tempranillo, 60% Garnacha and 20% Viura. Barrel-aged for 4 and a half years, being racked twice a year and fined with fresh egg whites (from the producer's website). 12% alcohol.

Coming from the family-run and very traditional Lopez de Heredia estate, this wine has notes of strawberry, blood orange, pomegranate, coconut, and exotic spices. Viña Bosconia is produced from the juice of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, and Graciano, aged for three years in American oak barrels. The winery is one of the few in Rioja still owned by its founding family.

Bright red. Complex aromas of cherry, sassafras, dried rose and pungent herbs, with a gentle vanilla note. Fleshy, sweet and graceful red fruit flavors are firmed by a bitter cherry quality and pick up dusty tannins with air. Finishes on a juicy note... Stephen Tanzer's IWC. A Tempranillo wine from Rioja in Spain. 2000 Lopez De Heredia Rioja Vina Tondonia Reserva 750ml

Wonderful velvety texture, great depth of fruit, finely balanced, in the flush of youth but with a great future ahead, should you choose to age this wine.
