The dark-amber-hued Premium Fine Tokay offers sumptuous notes of spice box, Christmas pudding, figs, brown sugar, and molasses. This blend represents the newest bottled offerings from this Rutherglen producer, an area that produces spectacular fortifieds, especially the Muscats and Tokays (actually Muscadelle). Its freshness, good acidity, soaring aromatics, and unctuous flavors must be tasted to be believed.
Smooth-textured, with toffee and caramel sweetness balanced by a touch of rancio. Complex hints of nuttiness and some cold tea characters. Good length and weight. Long nutty aftertaste.
A bargain among Down Under fortifieds, Bullerandrsquo;s Victorian blended Tokay features wonderfully complex notes of tea, spice and citrus atop lush caramel-like sweetness. Itandrsquo;s silky and balanced, with a long, citrusy finish.
The N.V. Fine Tokay is amber colored with flavors of honey, fig, citrus fruits, and orange marmalade. It is well balanced and has a long, pure finish.
This wine is nearly flawless. Fabulously perfumed as well as unctuously textured, it offers incredible notes of prunes, raisins, honey, molasses, roasted nuts, etc., etc. Australia continues to be a treasure trove for fortified, after-dinner wines. Once bottled, they do not change, and often age up to a decade where well stored. After opening, most will last for a week. This is one of the top wine discoveries of this yearandrsquo;s tastings. Many consumers are going to be overjoyed with this offering.
Bullerandrsquo;s top wines are from Rutherglen, but this entry-level Tokay carries the broader Victoria GI. Thereandrsquo;s a blast of bergamot upfront, the penetrating citrus notes layered over tea leaves and caramel flavors. Viscous and mouthcoating, it finishes long and citrusy-sweet.
Beginning the fortifieds, the NV Fine Old Tokay provides a great value taste of this style. Yielding a pale amber color, the aromas are of ripe figs, dried apricots, toffee, manuka honey and a whiff of treacle. Itandrsquo;s very sweet in the mouth, yet a high backbone of acid provides freshness for balance that lasts through the long finish.
