A syrah with training wheels. The color of borscht. Tastes more like a simple Gamay to me. Fresh strawberry and stewed fruits, a bit hot, and a small amount of a metallic meaty character on the nose. This is a wine of parts that aren't quite melded together yet to form a whole. Very short on the palate with very little interest. If anything it's fairly well balanced, although a little flat.

Upon opening it was rather vegetal, with an overpowering green pepper flavor that decanting an hour or so toned down a bit. After letting it breath it was more balanced, and the fruit came out a bit more. However, I never could warm up to it.

The nose opens to a strong vegetable scent that portends more of a randomly mixed puree of various veggies than of Syrah. Add damp black soil, new tires, prunes, green pepper, stewed fruits, and a mix of herbal perfumes. The palate seems off-key, combining green pepper, dirt, meat and wild raspberry in a blend of flavors that arrives at occasional harmony. Time tames the heat a bit, but there is no great symphony waiting.

I really enjoyed this wine. Was not as heavy as most Syrahs are to me, which is exactly what I was looking for last night. Had a nice sense of alcohol and mineral to it and the finish was fruity and robust. I like Syrah but will agree it is not a typical representation. I will buy it again though.

Bright purple. Blackberry and cassis scents are complicated by notes of game black pepper and bitter chocolate. Spicy dark fruit flavors show good concentration and focus with zesty acidity adding spine. Finishes with good cut length and lingering spiciness. Stephen Tanzers IWC.

Bright red-ruby. Raspberry, blackberry, currant and violet on the slightly candied nose. Sappy, fairly intense and fruity, with lively acids giving the wine a refreshing tart edge. Finishes with fine tannins and good length. Nicely ripe for this bottling.

Winemaker Notes - The wine is essentially a blend of cool-climate Santa Barbara grapes and warm-climate Paso Robles grapes. The cool-climate fruit gives spice, acidity and balanced alcohol while the warm-climate fruit give softness, roundness, ripeness and more up-front fruit flavors and aromas.

This is a spicy, zesty syrah with firm, peppercorn-scented tannins that grip its juicy blueberry flavor. With air, aromas of sage and thyme emerge to give it a sense of complexity. Whatandrsquo;s most appealing is the balance between the wineandrsquo;s silky texture and lean, fresh flavor. Try it with spicy Thai sausage.

A tasty and aromatic Syrah from Qupé, a specialist in Rhône grapes. This medium-bodied wine boasts classic Syrah flavors: black fruit and a touch of black pepper.

Bright ruby. Delicate aromas of raspberry and cherry, with a floral quality adding complexity. Juicy, pinot-like red berry flavors pick up a touch of black pepper with air, reminding me that this is actually syrah. Finishes a bit short but with good sappiness and a note of black olive.
