This is a spicy, zesty syrah with firm, peppercorn-scented tannins that grip its juicy blueberry flavor. With air, aromas of sage and thyme emerge to give it a sense of complexity. Whatandrsquo;s most appealing is the balance between the wineandrsquo;s silky texture and lean, fresh flavor. Try it with spicy Thai sausage.
A tasty and aromatic Syrah from Qupé, a specialist in Rhône grapes. This medium-bodied wine boasts classic Syrah flavors: black fruit and a touch of black pepper.
Therersquo;s a lot of edge to this complex, meaty syrah. The fruit has a cranberry flavor and the aromas are full on, with rose-petal-to-the-metal intensity. It ends firm and fresh, its purple color ready to brighten any offal, particularly braised tripe.
Bright ruby. Delicate aromas of raspberry and cherry, with a floral quality adding complexity. Juicy, pinot-like red berry flavors pick up a touch of black pepper with air, reminding me that this is actually syrah. Finishes a bit short but with good sappiness and a note of black olive.
The red wines include some excellent bargains. The 2005 Syrah Central Coast (20,000 cases produced) is a knock-out bargain for a Rhocirc;ne Ranger offering. Dark ruby with loads of peppery berry fruit touched by roasted Provenccedil;al herbs, it possesses supple tannin, impressive purity and overall harmony, and a surprisingly long, layered finish. This beauty should drink nicely for 4ndash;5 years.
Deep ruby-red. Spicy dark berries, chocolate, espresso and a whiff of black olive on the nose. Supple, broad, spicy and dry, currently showing more pepper, herbs, flowers and gingerbread than fruit. Lush but not heavy. Finishes with substantial broad, dusty tannins.
A simple syrah, this is mouthwatering even with its superripe red-fruit core, coastal in its feel. For grilled quail.
