Qupé Marsanne Santa Ynez Valley 2011

Member Review by VegasOenophile:

Spicy, zesty nose of herbs and flowers with light citrus. Like lemon meringue pie in a glass with hints of baking spice and herbs. Good mouthfeel and it lingers long. 93pts. 9/2/12 at tasting room

Zesty apple and pear on the nose. Buttery and smooth texture. Lime, pear and mineral with very light butter. Good acid and oak balance. Creamy feel. 90 pts. 9/2/12 at tasting room

Rich red berry aromas along with acai, blueberry and some black pepper notes. Some purple plummy notes on the nose as well. This wine has a sexy texture I really enjoy with powerful flavors without the mouth-blowing tannin, high acid and high alcohol feel. It's a pretty, more feminine style Syrah with finesse, rich berry fruit covering red, blue and purple with even some black fruit tones and wonderful balance. Some slight herbal qualities and pepper appear on the mid palate. It finishes pure and long. Very nice! Why I brought this home from the tasting room in Los Olivos! 93 pts.

Pretty nose filled with floral notes, lavender and red berry. Powerful and dense yet pretty in its flavor profile and delicacy of fruit. Complex with red berry fruit with leather, cedar, cherry and blackberry. Great layers! Cocoa finish. Beautiful wine! 95 pts. 9/2/12 at tasting room

Pretty blase. Traditional to the point of forgettable. No real notes of anything distinguishable, but not a bad wine... just generic.

Blackberry, vanilla, spice, lightly floral nose; some oak, relatively tannic w/ medium body, spicy finish. Well-balanced overall.

This intensely flavored white from Qupé is an excellent choice for lovers of Chardonnay but looking for something a bit different. Round, rich and the type of wine you can sip and enjoy. Aged in neutral oak barrels.

This is one of our best bottlings yet of this wine. The relatively cool vintage in 2006 allowed for long hang time and great acidity. The riper, forward fruit aspects of the Paso Robles fruit are balanced by the acidity and spiciness of the cool climate Santa Barbara fruit. This wine is made with early consumption in mind, but if you are so inclined, and since this is a special anniversary vintage, you can certainly put in the cellar for 8-10 years.

A tasty and aromatic Syrah from Rhône-grape specialist Qupé. This medium-bodied wine boasts classic Syrah flavors: black fruit and a touch of black pepper.

?There's a lot of edge to this complex, meaty syrah. The fruit has a high-toned, cranberry character, and the aromas are full on, with rose-petal-to-the-metal intensity. It ends firm and fresh, its purple color ready to brighten any deeply-flavored dish.?

Wine Tasting NotesThis is a classic vintage of Bien Nacido Syrah structured, balanced, spicy with persistent fruit. The aromas show typical cool climate character of white and black pepper, thyme and dried raspberries. Tannins are moderated by rich fruit and spices with the kind of refreshing acidity that makes you want more. This ranks among our best ever and will age nicely for 10-15 years.
