Qupe Central Coast Syrah 2005
Notes on the Qupe Central Coast Syrah 2005 : WINEMAKER NOTES: This is an outstanding bottling of our Central Coast Syrah, ranking alongside the 1991, 1994, 1998 and 2003. The cool climate Santa Barbara and Arroyo Grande fruit give the wine the whole range of spice characters, nicely offset by the forward, rich fruit character of warmer Paso Robles. The alcohol comes in just under 14%, which I'm very happy about. Sure, this wine will age beautifully, but what's the point? Drink it with pleasure over the next couple years and save your cellar space for more important wines.QUPE CENTRAL COAST SYRAH 2005
One of my faves, this is the ticket if you like big fruity wines. Hints of spice and a floral aroma but otherwise a pretty soft and easy drinker. A great Syrah for under $20. Actually, it's not just Syrah, it's 84% Syrah, 6% Grenache, 4% Counoise, 3% Mourvedre and a bit of Mondeuse, Cinsault, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Tempranillo.
This is a fruit forward and sometimes jammy tasting goody. It's fun to drink and I like it with or without food. In my experience, it's not the easiest wine to match with the foods I'm eating, but it still it great to drink on its own.
Really well balanced, smooth fruity and earthy tones, that slight buttery finish that makes me want to down the whole bottle. This wine is freakin delicious, and a good buy for the price.
Piercingly hot nose on this one. The flavors are of brown spice, leather and oak. It's jammy, but not in a bad way, with dark fruit flavors. Color has a pleasant garnet rim to it.
Nice light earthiness, decent syrah fleshiness, but not overpowering. A touch hot on the nose and in the mouth, so let stand for a while. Long finish on the spiciness of the syrah with some oak to add body. Good.
Dark red. Tight. Not very complex. Bitter fruit, mild tannin, no finish
