What to Expect

Zinfandel is considered America's own great indigenous grape, even though its origins lie on the Adriatic coast. Planted throughout California and the Pacific Northwest, Zinfandel is at its best in warm regions with cooler temperatures during harvest. The wines can range from off-dry Rosés, White Zinfandels, and light bistro styled wines, to big, rich powerful wines - even luscious wines for dessert bottling. The flavors range from plummy to raspberry, although deep blackberry fruit and brambly spice tones are most common.

Editorial Reviews

This has a sweet, brambly/herbal nose that shows its alcohol a bit too much. The heat accentuates a minty, chalky character but there are nice notes of lingonberry jam. Sweet on entry with pure raspberry fruit that is backed up with grace notes of tree bark, orange peel, and backing spices. The texture is a bit thick and slick with integrated acidity and soft, ripe tannins. Clean and brisk on the finish with a core of woodsiness and raspberry jam that leads to a final touch of spicy heat. Simple but big. 85pts

Reviews

A great zin, not overpowering but very tasty. Strongly recommend it if you are not looking for a alcohol zin. Pairs with food more like a Petit Noir.

Quivira is a small, organic family run estate in the heart of Sonoma. This Dry Creek Zinfandel is produced with fruit coming from a few different vineyards throughout the Dry Creek Valley. This shows bright red raspberry fruit, with underlying layers of tobacco, cedar, and mocha.
