What to Expect

Zinfandel is considered America's own great indigenous grape, even though its origins lie on the Adriatic coast. Planted throughout California and the Pacific Northwest, Zinfandel is at its best in warm regions with cooler temperatures during harvest. The wines can range from off-dry Rosés, White Zinfandels, and light bistro styled wines, to big, rich powerful wines - even luscious wines for dessert bottling. The flavors range from plummy to raspberry, although deep blackberry fruit and brambly spice tones are most common.

Winemakers Notes

Nestled in the rolling hills alongside Lytton Springs Road is a special vineyard belonging to Ray and Nadine Anderson. They used to grow kiwis on it, but now lease it to Quivria under a long-term contract. We planted it to Dry Creek Valley heritage clone Zinfandel, and we continue to farm it as well. Tony's crew treats the vines with their usual tender loving care, and yields are kept quite low, resulting in a wine of astonishing depth and richness from such young vines. Very dark, full bodied, and packed with jammy blackberry fruit, a touch of toasty oak, and with a smooth, supple character despite read more...its weight, this is one classic Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel.    (hide)
