Quinta Do Noval Vintage Port Nacional(2003)

This wine shows a stunning nose, with blackberry and cherry perfumes, is full-bodied and moderately sweet and has impressively well-integrated, ultrafine tannins and a long, silky finish.

Opaque, inky-black and dense with rustic undertones; rich and powerful in the mouth with a massive finish. This will last and last. Extremely rare: just 240 cases made.

Blackish purple. Very intense and convincing - smells like purple velvet! So round and opulent that a) you have to work at finding the tannins and b) you could drink it young. The tannins are there but the acidity is more obvious at the moment. Difficult wine to judge at this stage. Could be great or fall apart (I wrote when tasting it blind - now that I know what it is, I'm certainly prepared to give it the benefit of the doubt.) Quinta do Noval's very special patch of ungrafted vines which has been responsible for some of the most famous vintage ports ever.
