Quinta Dos Roques Encruzado Dao 2000

Member Review by jgalbjr:

Bought a case 5 years ago and haven't opened a bottle in at least 2. Color is dark burgandy red..still very dense. Nose is reminescent of an old port (grapes are all port grapes for goodness) with a hint of fruit and acidity. Initial palate is dense, leather, faded fruit and cedar....more than a bit like an aged Rioja. Finish is somewhat complex and long with still some acidity. This wine has aged nicely....not the fruity/acidic wine it once was. Very nice. Needs to open up a bit...was closed at first, but then started to open up quickly..maybe a bit too quickly, dont let this one hang around too long opened.

Alter choosing the best places with granitic and, at times, schistous soils, in gentle southern facing slopes, the best traditional grape varieties of the region were planted following the most advanced techniques. A new winery was then built, combining the modem with the traditional, the science and technology with art. Side by side, in perfect symbiosis, electronic presses appeared alongside granite "lagares", stainless steel vats with k barrels, cold systems with underground cellars.
