Quinta Do Vallado Red Blend Douro Reserva 2007
This eighteenth century Douro wine estate is actually one of the most modern-looking in Portugal. Although the team uses the traditional panoply of indigenous grapes, their methods are bang up to date and the results nothing short of sensational. Unusually for the region, Vallado's priority is making table wines rather than Port, although their 10 year old Tawny is a superb partner for everything from ripe Stilton to ginger cake.
