Food Pairings for Quinta Do Vale Meão Red Blend Douro Meandro
Editorial Reviews for Quinta Do Vale Meão Red Blend Douro Meandro
This explodes from the glass with very modern aromas of sweet fruit and smoky, almost charred wood but then settles down to reveal a nice smoked meatiness with lots of peppery black fruit edged in gentle notes of cocoa and something vaguely autumnal. In the mouth this is a big wine, again packed with sweet black fruit but with nice bright acids supporting them and a solid layer of tannin adding weight int he mouth. This is not my style of wine but is animpressive showing. 91pts
Explosively aromatic with a wonderful progression of aromatics from rosemary to sweet roasted meat, roasted veggies, crystallized ginger, fine french soap notes. Really compelling nose. In the mouth the wine is youthfully taut with ripe tannins spreading out across the palate, layered and complex with notes of balsam, herbs, and rich licorice tinger dark plums finishing with s good dose os spicy, expensive oak. Give this some time, i expect it to close down so waiting 3 years or so is in order. 2012-2018

The Douro seems to offer some of the most exciting dry reds around for very reasonable prices and this wine is a perfect example. Fans of Port will definitely notice the similarities in the nose, the very ripe dark fruit and smokey wood. Palette is rich yet bright with additions of holiday spices, pepper and tea.
Have not had the 06. The 07 was very very good. The 2005 was INSANELY good. One of the best wines I have ever had.
Being a big fan of wines from the Douro region I was very excited about this wine. The main problem I had with this wine was that the acid was so intense that the otherwise wonderful flavor notes and strong tannins were overpowered by it. I like some acid in wine, but it was overly so, for my taste. On the nose there were dark fruits, wet earth, and smoke. Tasting revealed deep, dark plum, cigar box with a cocoa finish and a hint of graphite.
One of my favourite wines. The younger brother, so to say, of Quinta do Vale Meão, made with the same expertise and obtaining remarkable results for a fraction of the price of its noble brother.
Impossible to find now. Even in Portugal it has become extremely rare and expensive. 50 euros plus if you can find it. One of the best bottles of wine I ever had.
We produce wines with strong and dark color, with a fantastic volume in mid palate and pronounced fruit aromas.Very well balanced acidity and underlying freshness are also present in our 2009 wines.
