Quinta Do Noval Port Blend Porto Vintage 1991

Member Review by iamjasonmann:

great value from a classic and consistent Port house. I've been to Quinta do Noval in Oporto, Portugal and the grounds exude the heritage of the brand. This is my goto brand for all things port as I'm never disappointed....particularly with the modest price of some of their LBVs.

The Quinta is approached by a long drive, covered by trellised vines. This is the first view of the quinta that you see as you drive up. Read less

We decanted this wine, with great precision, but were surprised to find very little sediment in the bottle. The color was a faded medium ruby with slight bricking along the rim. Ludens cherry cough syrup drops, cooked prunes and tobacco showed on the nose with an intense alcohol veil that never fully released its grip. Smooth and silky on the palate with medium acidity and very light in body. Hints of cherry, raisin and chocolate flavors mingle on the palate briefly before rapidly disappearing. For a 32 year old wine, I can't complain. Although it's past its prime, it's still a tasty port!

The 2011 Quinta do Noval has wonderful precision on the nose with blackberry cassis intriguing flinty notes and a whiff of smoke. It might not possess the power of the Nagional but it has freshness to spare. That comes through on the beautifully composed palate which is underpinned by fine tannins that lend it a silky smooth mouthfeel. There is real intensity here but it is very controlled with superb minerality on the finish. Excellent. Tasted May 2013. Neal Martins Wine Journal.

Steve Tanzer offers a fine description of the 2003 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port: "Saturated deep ruby. Sweet aromas of black cherry, cassis, licorice, molasses, minerals, toffee and violet. Dense, sweet and pliant, with outstanding precision and depth of flavor. Like the Silval, this boasts a seductively creamy texture. The explosive, mounting finish offers a fine dusting of ripe, suave tannins and great breadth." We couldn't say it any better!Enjoy the 2003 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port over the next 40 years as the perfect ending to a great dinner or to celebrate a very special moment in your life.

A wine that has the characteristic 2004 perfume character, with vanilla, almost opulent fruits and layers of nutmeg. There are blackberry and apple pie flavors and firm, dry tannins. Bottled unfiltered, suggesting aging potential.

What a nose. Ripe fruit, with chocolate, blackberries and raisins. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with velvety tannins. Finish goes on and on. Layered and wonderful. Best after 2014. 1,500 cases imported. -JS Wine Spectator. A Port wine from Douro in Portugal. 2003 Quinta do Noval Vintage Port 750ml

Readers should check out the just-released 1997 Late Bottled Vintage Port. A lovely, complex, fruity, soft effort, it remains young and unevolved, but promises to last for 5-10 more years.
