Quinta Do Noval Noval Unfiltered Late Bottled Vintage Port 2004

External Review by Prestige Wine & Spirits:

A wine that has the characteristic 2004 perfume character, with vanilla, almost opulent fruits and layers of nutmeg. There are blackberry and apple pie flavors and firm, dry tannins. Bottled unfiltered, suggesting aging potential.

As you approach the entrance to the quinta from Pinhão, you will see the famous broad terraces of Quinta do Noval on the right. The Quinta, which is principally situated in the valley of the small Pinhao river, a tributary of the Douro, has approximately 145 hectares of vines, ranging in altitude from 100 metres, at the level of the Pinhao river, to 350 metres at the summit of the valley. The Quinta is approached by a long drive, covered by trellised vines. This is the first view of the quinta that you see as you drive up. Read less

Offers sweet berry jam and treacle tart on the nose. Full-bodied and medium sweet, with slightly chewy tannins. A little lean. Some bottle age may soften it. Best after 2012.

Figs, dates, raisins and cherries are what I detected from having a glass (or two) of this great port. For a 2004 this port held up well. For a great after-dinner drink, I would recommend this.
