Editorial Reviews for Quinta Do Crasto Douro Touriga Nacional
Aged in very light toast wood,100% new French, A bit spicy on the nose with a fair base of new French oak showing some toastiness in a nutty coffee bean kind of way along with , a bit of something herbal and smoky adding a bit of a wild note to the bouquet. Rich and smooth on entry with excellent supporting acidity, there's some marzipan here early on the palate with dry, slightly earthy dark berry fruits and some vague umami notes on the backend. This is powerful in the mouth with stony minerality, almost a bit rusty even, but today it is quite structured so even though one can sense the savory and deep fruit and lovely structural integration, it remains a bit matte and opaque on the palate no doubt destined to improve in the cellar. 93pts

Intensiv – Auge, Nase, Gaumen, Nachgeschmack…
Reminds one of a rich fruity Bordeaux, but Portuguese style and without all the funk. Tested on well-aired bottle, about 3 hrs. Alluring nose of deep dark berry fruit and floral and hints of smoke/licorice. In the mouth heavenly blend of savory dusty ripe deep red fruit with a metal wrapper. Finishes with drying tannin at the front of the mouth. This was excellent. Dry. Body medium, acid medium, tannin medium plus.
Tested from a preservation machine. Alluring nose of creamy vanilla cake and dark red fruit and perfume with notes of warm spice (e.g. cinnamon) and hint of earth (dust). Well-balanced in the mouth with tasty red berry and dark cherry fruit in a noticeable earthy wooden envelope with hints of the warm spices. Fruity and a bit watery but quite pleasant in the finish. Dry. Body medium, acid medium, tannin medium minus.
The rich, round palate builds on an elegant, complex nose, with both hosting flavors and scents of earth, cedar, vanilla, dark fruits and wild berries. Spices elevate the sweet, ripe fruit to a pleasantly integrated balance. Plum, with a syrupy ripeness, is the dominant fruit flavor. At times the plum overpowers other elements, but complexity and depth soon return to put the palate back in balance, sustaining interest over time. An opulent but elegant wine.
