Quinta de la Rosa Douro Dourosa 2007

Winemaker's Notes:

This wine is made from Douro white grape varieties traditionally used for making white port. This 2007 douROSA white wine is principally blended from Codega and Rabigato grape varieties. The grapes come from nearby vineyards with a higher altitude, above the Douro Valley, than Quinta de la Rosa. The vineyards are especially identified by wine maker, Jorge Moreira, for their quality and good acidities. As a result of the climatic conditions, the grapes ripened well giving a good balance between richness/volume on the palate and acidity. The wine has citric and mineral flavours and a marked personality to match a wide variety of different foods. This white wine is ready for drinking now. Serve chilled as an excellent refreshing aperitif. It is a perfect with food and can easily be drunk when eating fish and chicken dishes and salads.

The family port shipping company, Feueheerd, was sold in the 1930s but La Rosa was kept and run by Sophia's grandmother, Claire. In 1988 Sophia and her father, Tim Bergqvist, decided to restart the family business and launched Quinta de la Rosa as a top quality port producer onto the market place. Starting in the early 1990s, the Bergqvist family were one of the pioneers in taking red wine production in the Douro region seriously. Quinta de la Rosa's red wine has won many accolades in the press and is sold in many prestigious restaurants and wine stores around the world. For the last 5 years, the Bergqvist family has also been making their Vale da Clara wine, buying in carefully selected grapes from nearby properties. The wine differs distinctly from the La Rosa wine produced - it has more fruit and less oak flavors. Read less
