Quinta de la Rosa Douro Dourosa 2003

Member Review by lamarr:

2nd Day Addendum: Out of the Malbec, the Indaba, the Petit Verdot, and this, this one tasted the best. Held a nice oaky quality that was not overpowering. Very pleasant.,

The Bergqvist family have been making port since 1815. Quinta de la Rosa was given as a christening present for Claire Feuheerd, Sophia's grandmother, in 1906. The family port shipping company, Feueheerd, was sold in the 1930s but La Rosa was kept and run by Sophia's grandmother, Claire. In 1988 Sophia and her father, Tim Bergqvist, decided to restart the family business and launched Quinta de la Rosa as a top quality port producer onto the market place. Starting in the early 1990s, the Bergqvist family were one of the pioneers in taking red wine production in the Douro region seriously. Quinta de la Rosa's red wine has won many accolades in the press and is sold in many prestigious restaurants and wine stores around the world. For the last 5 years, the Bergqvist family has also been making their Vale da Clara wine, buying in carefully selected grapes from nearby properties. The wine differs distinctly from the La Rosa wine produced - it has more fruit and less oak flavors. Read less

4. 2003 Quinta de la Rosa Douro – Portugal – Color: light garnet, Nose: raspberry, cherry, Taste: a little earthy, dirt or chalk, Megan: “Floral. A little spiceness to it…Violets,” light tannins, short finish, may be the result of being opened yesterday. Lamarr: B+, low B+ (interesting taste, not fruity, something else, floral perhaps, I like it but the finish is lacking)
